Apple Crisp

Few can resist my apple crisp. The milk baked right into the topping adds a delectable flavor. This is a comfort food they'll love.

Makes 6 servings

Apples:
6     small, sweet apples, peeled, cored, and very thinly sliced
1     cup water
3     tablespoons sugar
2     teaspoons lemon juice
1     teaspoon vanilla extract
1     teaspoon ground cinnamon
⅛    teaspoon ground nutmeg
2     teaspoons cornstarch dissolved in 1 tablespoon water

Topping:
1     cup nonfat dry milk
1     cup Grape Nuts cereal (4½ ounces)
3     tablespoons sugar
1     teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash ground nutmeg
3     tablespoons reduced-calorie margarine
2     tablespoons water

Gather both sets of Ingredients and  preheat oven to 375°.

Spray a 9-inch pie pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Place apples in a large saucepan.

Add water, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Toss to combine.

Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Add cornstarch mixture. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture has thickened and apples are slightly tender, about 5 minutes.

 Spoon apples into prepared pan.

In a medium bowl, combine all topping ingredients except water.

Mix with a fork until milk and margarine are evenly distributed.

Add water and mix well.

Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.

Bake, uncovered, 20 minutes, or until lightly browned.

For best flavor, serve warm.
