In honor of National Burger Month AND Memorial Day this weekend, I wanted to share my delicious (and healthly) twist on a turkey burger! My Italian Turkey Burgers!
Served on a whole grain bun or on a bed of rice or noodles, these burgers will definitely be a hit.
Makes 4 servings
Burgers:
·
1 lb. lean ground turkey
·
2 tablespoons grated onion
·
1 teaspoon dried oregano
·
½ teaspoon dried basil
·
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
Sauce:
·
1 8-ounce can salt-free (or
regular) tomato sauce
·
1 4-ounce can mushroom
pieces, drained
·
¼ teaspoon each dried oregano
and basil
·
⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
In a large bowl, combine turkey with remaining
burger ingredients. Mix well. Shape into 4 patties.
Spray a large nonstick griddle or skillet with
nonstick cooking spray. Heat over medium heat.
Place burgers on griddle. Cook until burgers
are done and nicely browned on both sides. Turn burners several times while
cooking.
While burgers are cooking combine sauce
ingredients in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until hot and bubbly.
Keep warm over low heat until burgers are ready.
Divide sauce evenly and spoon over burgers when
serving.
